* ക്ഷേത്രത്തെപ്പറ്റി *

ആയിരത്താണ്ടുകള്‍ പിന്നിട്ട ഈ മഹാക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ ആദികാല ചരിത്രത്തെ പ്രതിപാദിക്കുന്ന ശിലാരേഖകളോ, താമ്ര ശാസ നങ്ങ ളോ ,  ആധികാരികസ്വഭാവമുള്ള മറ്റേതെങ്കിലും രേഖകളോ ഉള്ള തായി അറിവില്ല. കൊല്ലവര്‍ഷം 684-ാമാണ്ടില്‍ ( A D 1508-ല്‍) ക്ഷേത്രത്തില്‍ ശുദ്ധികലശവും, അഷ്ടബന്ധകലശവും നടത്തിയ തായി   പറമ്പൂര്‍ ഗ്രന്ഥവരിയില്‍ കാണുന്ന സൂചനമാത്രമാണ് പഴക്കമുള്ളതായി പറയാവുന്ന ഏക ആധാരരേഖ.

 മേത്യക്കേല്‍ മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രവും കവിയൂര്‍ ക്ഷേത്രവും ഒരേ കാലത്തു സ്ഥാപിക്കപ്പെട്ടതാണെന്ന പക്ഷം ഉണ്ട്. ഇവയ്ക്കു തുല്യതയും കല്പിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ഇവിടെ രണ്ടിടത്തും തന്ത്രി ഒരേ കുടുംബക്കാര്‍ തന്നെയാണ്. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം ഇരവിപേരൂര്‍ പാഴൂര്‍ എന്ന ക്ഷത്രിയകുടുംബം വകയായിരുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ ഭരണാവകാശം മാത്രമായിരുന്നു അവര്‍ക്കെന്നും പക്ഷമുണ്ട്. ഇരവിപേരൂര്‍ പത്തില്ലങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ ഭരണചുമതല കിട്ടിയതായും പറയപ്പെടുന്നു. കിഴക്കോട്ടു ചാഞ്ഞ ലക്ഷണ യുക്തമായ ഭൂമിയിലാണ് മേത്യക്കേല്‍ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം പഞ്ചപ്രാകരങ്ങളോടുകൂടിയ മഹാക്ഷേത്രമായിരുന്നു. നാലമ്പലവും ധ്വജവും ഗോപുരവും, കിഴക്ക് ക്ഷേത്രകുളവും മറ്റുമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ശ്രീകോവിലില്‍ നിന്നും 64 ¼ അടി കിഴക്കുമാറി വലിയബലിക്കല്ലു മാത്രം ക്ഷേത്രപ്രാകാരത്തിന്റെ വലിപ്പത്തെ ഓര്‍മ്മപ്പെടുത്തികൊണ്ട് ഇന്നും നിലനില്‍ക്കുന്നു. ഏകദേശം മൂന്നേകാല്‍ അടി സമചതുര മായതും അത്രതന്നെ ഉയരമുള്ളതുമായ ഒരു പീഠത്തിലാണ് ശിവ ലിംഗ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ. ശിവലിംഗത്തിന് പീഠത്തില്‍നിന്നും ഒന്നേമുക്കാല്‍ അടി ഉയരമുണ്ട്. ഈ ശിവലിംഗം സ്വയംഭൂവാണെന്ന് അഭിപ്രായ മുണ്ട്. ഈ ബിംബത്തിന് പരസഹസ്രം വര്‍ഷത്തെപഴക്കം ഊഹി ക്കാവുന്നതാണ്.

മണിക്കിണര്‍

ശ്രീകോവിലിനുമുന്നില്‍ വടക്കുകിഴക്കായി സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന മണി ക്കിണറില്‍ നിന്നും രഹസ്യഭൂഗര്‍ഭമാര്‍ഗ്ഗം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന തിന്റെ വ്യക്തമായ തെളിവ് ഇന്നും കാണാവുന്നതാണ്. ക്ഷേത്രക്കാവിലെ കൂറ്റന്‍ പാറയുടെ അടിയിലും ഇത്തരമൊരു ഗുഹാമാര്‍ഗ്ഗമുണ്ട്.

ക്ഷേത്രം തന്ത്രി

മേത്യക്കേല്‍ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ താന്ത്രിക അവകാശം തിരുവല്ല തുകലശ്ശേരി പറമ്പൂര്‍ഭട്ടതിരിക്കാണ്. പരശുരാമന്‍നേരിട്ട് കൈവട്ടക നല്‍കി തന്ത്രിയായി അവരോധിച്ച ബ്രാഹ്മണ കുടുംബങ്ങളില്‍ ഒന്നാണ് പറമ്പൂര്‍. പ്രസ്തുതപരമ്പരയിലെ ബ്രഹ്മശ്രീ.പത്മനാഭന്‍ ഭട്ടതിരിപ്പാടാണ് ഇപ്പോള്‍ ക്ഷേത്രം തന്ത്രി.

മേല്‍ശാന്തി

പച്ചംകുളം, കരനെന്മേനി, കരിപ്പൂര്‍, തെഞ്ചേരി, കൊന്നോലി, ഇള യിടം എന്നീ ഇല്ലങ്ങള്‍ക്കായിരുന്നു ഇവിടുത്തെ ഊരാണ്മ എന്നും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ സ്ഥാനക്കണക്ക് പനയ്ക്കല്‍ കുടുംബത്തിനായിരുന്നു എന്നും പറയപ്പെടുന്നു.

കല്ലൂപ്പാറ പോറ്റിമഠത്തില്‍ ബ്രഹ്മശ്രീ.ഹരികൃഷ്ണന്‍ നമ്പൂതിരിയാണ് ഇപ്പോള്‍ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ മേല്‍ശാന്തി.

Last week, I saw the attached announcement in the F B from one of my friends from our village Eraviperoor."MEHTRUKOVIL MAHADEVAR TEMPLE SRIMATH BHAGAVATHA SAPTHAHA YEJNAM" starting from 10th Nov.2014 till 16th Nov.2014.When I saw this announcement,mentally I have gone 43 years back. I was a graduate student with my nick name popularly known in our area called "Balan Neyyathuruthil" and I am just sharing my thoughts,but the "true history" with my very close friends.This is small history with a religious background.Therefore it is not necessary that everyone must like this.Therefore,please do not waste your time if it is not on your best interest.

In Nov.1971,a small group of youngsters from our small village, Eraviperoor (A ward) joined together and started this "Sapthaha Yejnam" at Methrukovil Mahadevar temple.The youngsters were 1.Mani Nyttiyil, 2.late Sivan Khanathattu, 3.Rajappan Karimbannoor, 4.Unni Illathu, 5.Rajappan Kannimelkunnel, 6.Thankappan Methrukovil, and finally. 7.Balan Neyyathuruthil,which is me(with my nick name).In addition to this,there are lot of people had given moral and physical support to conduct this ritual program successfully specially late Ramachandran,Kanathattu,late SivaSankara Pillai chettan,Neyyathuruthil and many others.This was organized under the patronage and guidance of late Thottabhagum Panicker Chettan. 

 (During this period I was a graduate student.(Imagine in 1972/73)

From the tender age,I was listening and reading the holy book of "Bhagavatam" in my home on monthly basis during my monthly "pakka pirannal" always organized my late parents and I used to listen Bhagavatham from very professionals like Mughatthala Chellappan Pillai, Attuvasseri Raghavan Pillai, ,Velinallor Madhavan Nair,Ennekkattu Kutten Pillai, Chennithala Chellappan Pillai, Vanavathukkara Bhakthan,Thevalakkara Janardhana Kurup, Puramattam Gopinathan Pillai etc etc....and some of them even came to my home and read the "Bhagavatham" on my monthly "Pakka pirannal".This was one of the basic enthusiasm for me to join with other friends to start a "Bhagavatha Yanjam" at the Methrukovil Mahadevar temple.I was able to bring two professionals both Mughathala,Thevalakkara and Puramattam  to perform the "SapthahaYejnam" in the first three years i.e.1971,72 and 73 respectively with full involvement and in 1974 left to Kuwait after completion of my post graduation and marriage as well..The first year collection was only Rs.212.50ps,out of which cash received only Rs.159/-and the rest of them was contributions from various houses in our village,like rice,tapioca,banana etc and it had gone at the end of each day for public auction,to get small small amount and the grand total became Rs.212.ps.50 net.

Generally,the village society was not rich with liquid cash during that period and very hard to find money like what we see now with the public.The electricity was available only in my house close to our temple during that period and to get the connection,we brought three or more roll of wire to get electrical connection from my home.We have given Guru Dekshina Rs.20/-to late Mughathala Chellappan Pilla chettan and Rs.10/- was given to late Puramattam Gopi chettan and Rs.15/- for late Thottabhagam Panicker chettan for conducting the Pooja and ritual things in the first year.The Bhagavatham readers and Panicker Chettan was staying in various houses for seven days including food.After completion of the seven days "Sapthahayejnam",we had a saving of Rs.22/-carried forward for next year.Still I am keeping this record as a souvenir for me.In fact,this program is uninterruptedly continuing even today, the 43rd year,but the background for the first initiative was from me and my small group of friends and the time has gone over four decades.This is small background as I have seen the 43rd"Sapthahayejnam" notice in the Facebook of Anil Povappuzha. Then I remember the initial history of this ritual program and it has gone through my mind just like a film role.Now the time has changed,the situation changed and the cash flow has been changed.

Now the cost of this ritual programs goes over two three Lakhs of rupees with daily feast for over several hundreds of people,who attend this ritual program for the continuous seven days.In early 90's, I committed myself  as a "Vazhipadu"to cover the total expense for one year and it  was reached almost Rs.47458/- and the current cost,I am not sure of it.Last year I got an opportunity to attend this ritual function for just one day.
This is history now.If I go and explain this background to the young generation of our village,they might say "nonsense".He has come with old stories................I do not know,my village also might have changed.

But one thing I can assure to the young generation of Eraviperoor village as follows:-

All my success in my career path has come through my life,I strongly believe that I was able to initiate this "Sapthaha Yegnam" with proper spiritual way and also a very very good listener,sitting in the "Yegna Salai" ,continuously for seven days with full mental commitment as a good listener. Imagine,everything is possible if you listen and actively involve in Saptaha Yegnam. The God Almighty Lord SreeKrishna in Bhagavatham is more easy to understand than Krishna in"Bhagavath Geeta". Otherwise a Hindu man like me never ever reach to the General Manager,Retail position in one of the "leading Islamic bank" in the Middle East (Kuwait) and took a retirement now.?It will never happen in history !!!.  I am not talking about money,it may come and go???? All because of my commitment to "Sapthaha Yegnam"............believe it or not !!!
